Since 1984, more than 250 Outremer catamarans have sailed the world’s seas crewed by couples and families making their dreams a reality. Some have gone around the world. Others have concentrated on performance; having won a multitude of races. All share in the end result of Outremer’s vision:
Outremer = Seaworthy + Speed + Simplicity
Seaworthy simply means the ability of a vessel to take you anywhere, safely.
Outremer’s hulls are designed to increase longitudinal and diagonal stability while reducing stresses on the structure, favoring a ratio which is crucial to performance: the length/beam ratio at the waterline. Another Outremer trademark is her short central coachroof, which reduces windage and contributes to an optimized weight. Her bridgedeck sits high above the water, reducing the risk of impact in the waves and resulting in an increase in safety, comfort and speed.
Simplicity is an asset. Having a boat without complicated systems enables easy maintenance, all over the world, at very little cost. This systematic design approach to an effectively safe, fast solution is a priority. All consideration and research are aimed at making life onboard an Outremer catamaran as easy as possible.
Design is the foundation around which the vision of Outremer takes form.
Over the years, Outremer has had the privilege of working with such names as:
VPLP: the world leading designer of racing and cruising multihulls were responsible for drawing the plans. Recent achievements of VPLP: 2011 – Maxi Banque Populaire V– SNSM record | 2011 – Gitana 11 – Round Belle-Île record | 2011 – Virbac Paprec – Winner of the Barcelona World Race| 2010 – Groupama 3 – Winner of the Route du Rhum | 2010 – Groupama 3 – Jules Vernes Trophy Record | 2010 – BMW – Oracle – Winner of the America’s Cup
Mer Forte: Michel Desjoyaux, world renown as multiple winner in several long-distance single-handed races, through his Mer Forte consulting office, contributed to the design of a high performance and functional deck layout with a focus on suitability for short-handed sailing.
Franck Darnet Design, a member of SuperYacht France, designed the interior with well-chosen materials achieving a balance of simplicity and comfort with formal elegance. Creator of the Outremer 49 and of the entire Allures range, Franck Darnet has also designed the world’s largest composite catamaran ever built (120’).
Patrick Le Quément, a veteran figure in aesthetics and former director of the Renault design office, Patrick Le Quément was consulted to match the boat design for purpose.
