Sailing La Vagabonde takes Greta Thunberg Across Atlantic
Coming off the heels of a successful 2019 Annapolis Boat Show while on featured as the Outremer 45 display boat for Just Catamarans, S/V LA VAGABONDE is on her way across the Atlantic after responding to a plea for transportation by teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg to attend the COP25 Environmental Summit in Madrid, Spain.
Said Thunberg about the opportunity after the canceled Summit in Chile moving to Spain: “So happy to say that I’ll hopefully make it to COP25 in Madrid,” Thunberg wrote on Instagram. “I’ve been offered a ride from Virginia on the 48ft catamaran La Vagabonde.”
Thunberg is known within environmental circles for refusing to fly due to high emission levels, instead using vessels like electric cars, trains, and, of course, boats like Catamarans. Last Wednesday, Thunberg, her father Svante, English sailor Nikki Henderson along with Elayna, Riley, and Lenny set sail on the trans-Atlantic crossing from Virginia for Spain. “We successfully left the shores of Virginia this morning and on our way across the Atlantic with @GretaThunberg @NikkiHenderson,” Riley Whitelum tweeted.
The trip is supposed to take around 14 days. Stay tuned with Just Catamarans for more recap updates on their journey across the Atlantic.
