Adventure
Equipped for ocean crossings and remote cruising grounds.
A 50-foot blue-water catamaran built from basalt and recycled PET, with twin 20 kW electric motors charged by sun, wind and water.
Fast, robust, eco-designed
Equipped to take you to Patagonia by way of the Pacific islands, with no carbon footprint unless you motor for long stretches. Fast, comfortable, and sturdy enough to trust far from shore.
Architects Christophe Barreau and Frédéric Neuman gave her slightly fuller bows than most catamarans, so she keeps performing when fully loaded for a long passage. Add a powerful rig, modest displacement and daggerboards, and she covers ground quickly without leaving essential gear behind.
Fuller entries carry cruising weight without giving up speed.
2.32 m draft with boards down for upwind work, 1.03 m with them up for shallow anchorages.
Certified CE Category A for up to 12 people.

Forward cockpit
Both helms sit at the front of the saloon behind a wall of glass, with the winches and lines led between them. You steer and trim out of the weather, a few steps from the galley and the rest of the crew.
Bench seating on each side turns the cockpit into a lookout for whoever is on watch.
Performance
Barreau-Neuman lines, daggerboards and 253 m² downwind on 11.2 tonnes light. On test she held more than 7 knots close-hauled and never dropped below 4 knots through a tack.

Energy system
Two 20 kW electric shaft drives run off a 53.8 kWh lithium bank. Solar on the roof refills it at anchor, and once the sails are up the idle propellers turn into hydro-generators.
Sailing at 10 knots, each propeller puts back about 1 kWh every hour, so a full day under sail can refill the bank. If the batteries run low, a 17.9 kW generator starts on its own, for a range of around 1,100 nautical miles under power.
Solar and regeneration figures from Sail Universe's test boat. Electric range: about 4 hours at 6 knots using 10 kW.

Construction
Like every Windelo, the 50 swaps glass fibre for basalt, spun from volcanic rock, and uses PET foam made from recycled plastic bottles for most of the core. PVC foam stays only where loads are highest.
