Adventure
Equipped for ocean crossings and remote cruising grounds.
A 53-foot blue-water catamaran built from basalt and recycled PET, driven by twin 20 kW electric motors and charged by sun, wind and water.
Award winner
Multihulls World named the Windelo 54 Multihull of the Year in the Premiere category at the International Multihull Show. Cruising World's Boat of the Year judges followed with a Special Recognition award for innovation.

Cruising World Boat of the Year. "Truly, we'd not seen anything quite like this boat before."

Forward cockpit
The helm moves forward to the front of the saloon. Two wheels, three electric Harken winches between them and a wall of glass ahead. A watertight sliding door closes it off in heavy weather, and the watch-keeper is a few steps from the galley and nav desk.
The standout feature of the 54 is its dual-helm forward cockpit.Cruising World, boat review
Living aboard
An open, modular saloon with a 360° sea view, a galley in L or U shape, a table for ten, and an owner's suite that takes the full port hull. Up to four cabins plus a skipper's cabin.

Performance
Barreau-Neuman lines, daggerboards and 289 m² downwind on 12.8 tonnes light. Only slightly heavier than the Windelo 50, with much more canvas; the yard promises 20 knots.

Energy system
Two 20 kW electric shaft drives run off a 53.8 kWh lithium bank. Solar, a wind turbine and the props themselves refill it. Above 8 knots the feathering Gori props spin backwards and charge the batteries while you sail.
A 17.9 kW generator is the backup. Four hours at 6 knots on electric takes just over an hour of generator time to put back, for a generator-supported range of around 1,100 nautical miles.
Daily figures are Windelo estimates, as reported by Cruising World.

Construction
Windelo replaces glass fibre with basalt, spun from volcanic rock with no additives, and replaces most PVC foam with PET foam made from recycled plastic bottles. PVC stays only where loads are highest. At end of life the basalt can be remelted and rewoven.
*Windelo says the sandwich cuts the hull's environmental footprint by 47%, and that basalt production emits about ten times less carbon than fibreglass. Both figures are the builder's.
