About Jim Ross
Catamaran specialist Jim Ross was born and raised in South Florida. He worked for a local Fire department for twenty-six years and recently retired as a Battalion Chief. Jim has taken the first responder approach as a Catamaran broker, working hard to have his clients be in the know with all things yachting.
Jim grew up on and around the water and has been sailing/boating for most of his life. He has owned and raced all types of sailboats since an early age. He taught ‘learn to sail’ for a local sailing school and has a real passion for being on the water.
Catamarans have intrigued Jim for a long time and that is why he sells them exclusively. In fact, he is in the market to purchase a new catamaran for himself and his family and plans to sail around the Abaco Islands and the Caribbean.

My husband and I just bought our first catamaran, Happy Time, at Just Catamarans and Jim Ross made it an easy and enjoyable process. We are from Los Angeles and with 3 kids and a busy life at home, we were only available to squeeze in seeing catamarans during quick business trips into South Florida. Jim could always accommodate our requests to see one, even when the requests were last minute. When we found our dream boat, Happy Time, we knew she was a special boat, and Jim assured us that the owner Steve was a really great guy who was meticulous with her upkeep and would be glad to help us with anything we needed in the transition to becoming her new owners.
This gave us great peace of mind and decided to put an offer on her the day we saw her. Once our offer was accepted, we told Jim which day we could be back in town for the inspection, haul out, and sea trial and he took care of every detail, all we did was show up. He had a cooler full of beverages as it was going to be a long and hot day and he even let us borrow his new truck to head to Publix when we got hungry! During the inspection, Jim called Steve immediately with any questions came up (and they came up often). He spent a ton of time with us that day figuring out every little detail of the boat. He was extremely helpful, informative, and accommodating the entire time.
Even after the closing, we have kept in close contact with Jim. Jim, and the entire staff at Just Catamarans has been incredibly helpful and responsive to all of our needs, from small questions about the boat to larger issues such as major modifications we are making, local resources, even checking in from time to time on the boat as it sits in South Florida waiting for us to finalize our modifications and transition our life across the country from California to our new home … Happy Time!.

We selected Jim Ross to list our boat Khaleesi, due to his knowledge, experience, and association with the Just Catamarans organization. When we saw he listed his cell number on the Just Catamarans site, we knew he would be accessible and responsive to our needs, and he was.
We had unique circumstances and Jim navigated through those concerns patiently and successfully. Jim referred us to marine professionals that were effective and allowed us to pull everything together. There were several instances where he went above-and-beyond to help the transaction for all parties involved.
Having Jim on the inside monitoring service work performed by the Just Catamarans Service department was very helpful. Although I added some items to the list, they got everything done in the allotted time and quoted costs.

My wife and I recently sold our Matrix Yachts Vision 450 catamaran Happy Time through Just Catamarans. Our experience with our yacht broker, Jim Ross, and with the staff of Just Catamarans was exceptional and surpassed our expectations.
We spoke with several brokers prior to listing our boat for sale. We chose Jim Ross because he immediately recognized that Happy Time, one of only four Vision 450’s worldwide, had many construction and design features not typically found on production boats, and that the key to a successful sale would be to find the right buyer who also recognized and appreciated those features that made her special.
Jim is clearly an expert in the catamaran market; he gave us excellent advice about preparing the boat for sale, helped us establish a good asking price and kept us well informed during the sales process. I felt we were in good hands the entire time and there were absolutely no unpleasant surprises.
Jim succeeded in finding the right buyer, and we sold Happy Time in short order and at the perfect time for us. I think the final sales price was fair for both parties and both parties came away pleased.
I would be remiss not to mention how helpful the service staff and office staff at Just Catamarans were to us. In particular, Laurent and Tony were invaluable to us helping to resolve maintenance and repair issues, including several last minute items that might have caused problems during the sea trials. Jenn in the office helped us immensely by finding a slip at Harbour Towne marina for us prior to the sea trials and went the extra mile by mailing some items we had left behind when we left.
In summary, I could not have been more satisfied with our experience, and I would highly recommend Jim Ross and Just Catamarans to anyone who is planning to buy or sell a catamaran. When we are ready to jump back into owning a catamaran, Jim will be the first person we call.
From the initial email to the day we left the dock with our boat, you were there acting as our personal server… answering many questions, being always available by phone, and even helping with the return of the rental auto… Thanks also for checking on us after the sale. You were up front with us from the beginning about the condition of the boat and your honesty made us feel at ease.

From day one, he was superb in managing all aspects of the sale. He went the extra mile on numerous occasions with prepping the boat for the selling process, following through with troubleshooting and being alert to the care of our boat after we departed. He worked hard!
He was strong in communication and follow-through. Honestly, it was an emotional decision to sell, but the selling process was handled competently and efficiently with Jim. He is a solid and trustworthy individual to work with.
We also had to opportunity to follow them and see the team in action on the YouTube video bloggers “Gone with the Wynns”. Jim represented us and Just Catamarans very well. We decided to list the boat on a Sunday afternoon and Jim answered our phone call that day, we had the boat listed on Monday and an acceptable offer on Thursday. Final acceptance after the survey was three weeks later.

He made sure every detail was in order through closing and then was very helpful during our ownership any time we had questions. Then he listed and sold our boat for us after our trip was over. Jim Ross is a hard worker and I would absolutely recommend his services.
First, he put us in contact with a company that arranged for our boat to be docked behind a home in Fort Lauderdale at substantial savings compared to local marinas. Then he picked us up and brought us to the car rental company about 30 minutes away. Immediately upon signing the brokerage agreement, he had our boat listed on ‘Yacht World’. Whenever we had any request or question, he was responsive and helpful. Within 3 weeks he had a buyer from another brokerage.
He personally showed AG to this buyer and negotiate a selling price. Then he accompanied the buyer and surveyor on a sea trial that lasted the entire day. Afterward, he negotiated a concession with the buyer and closed the deal. Even then he was not done.
He made sure the closing process went smoothly and quickly. It’s because of this personal service that we would recommend Jim to any individual selling their boat.
Jim compiled and managed a team who understood the complexities of the required international negotiations, the financial complexities of a non-USD purchase and navigating through the necessary paperwork.
Very notable was Jim’s responsiveness and attention during the 4 months, from initial offer to closure. During the entire process Jim’s communication to us was constant; informing us of key milestones in the process, ensuring we were aware of actions requiring our attention, and providing advice on how to proceed when we had questions. Jim’s responses to our emails and texts were almost immediate – notable since we were located two time zones away! Jim’s attention to our concerns certainly made the process easier.
Since our purchase, Jim has provided great support. After closure, and as we transitioned to our on-board lifestyle, from two time zones away, Jim continued to be engaged. As our yacht was docked, and we were out of the area, Jim checked in on our new home, and even provided improved mooring protections to ensure our home was secure. Well beyond our expectations and very much appreciated. Jim certainly treated us like one of the family, as opposed to just another customer.

We couldn’t buy our boat yet because we were waiting for our business to sell. He kept in contact with us. Upon selling our business we called Jim and said that I wanted to come to Ft. Lauderdale to look at a boat we were interested in. We were ready. Not only did he show me the boat we were interested in, but several others. He explained things to me and was very patient. We have never owned a boat so he had his work cut out for him. After many discussions with my husband, we were going to keep looking.
Jim kept in contact and sent us anything new on the market. After hurricane Irma, there just wasn’t that much out there that we liked. I sent him several emails asking questions about costs, etc. He was always quick to respond.
At the beginning of May, an Ocean Cat 49 had just been listed. This was the one. We called Jim and asked him to put in an offer. He did it immediately. They countered, we countered and we had our boat in one day.
Now I was terrified. What do we do now? He walked us through everything. He gave us names of a few surveyors. He met us in 10 days for the survey in Annapolis, MD. He gave us contact information for several people in the area and if he didn’t know he found out for us. He had the Documentation people contact us to get the ball rolling. We closed in about a month. Jim is a great guy. He still calls or texts to make sure everything is going well. We would definitely recommend Jim Ross if you want excellent service when purchasing your boat.
